I now live in the city of Dayton proper. This is not, despite rumors to the contrary, a Bad Thing. For the most part, we've enjoyed our move. Our neighborhood reminds us of where we grew up. We have a yard again (and our dog thanks us). But we sometimes hear that there's Things Wrong With Dayton. From my reading, these are things that are plaguing nearly every city in the United States (and good luck if you're not one of them!). Dayton, for better or worse, has at least moved past denial and is actively trying to do things about it. Again - for better or for worse. Still, I have to think there's still a culture of failure in Dayton that needs to be swept away. It's not explicit, but institutional. You don't read about it on the editorial pages - but it's there nonetheless. How do I, Joe Nobody, know this? I looked at my water utility bill.
