The MasterThe student came upon the master as he was planting his garden. "Master," cried the student, "I am told that you control great magicks, that you can create things, that you can grant life! Please, Master, show me these magicks that I may believe!" The master patiently finished planting a seed, then turned to the student, a serene expression flooding his face. "I will show you magick, but it takes quite some time to prepare for it, to create these great magicks you demand. Return in three months with this seed." So saying, the master gave the student a second seed and returned to his planting, not noticing when the puzzled student walked away. Months passed, and once again the student came upon the master in the garden, now harvesting a crop of tomatoes, gingerly inspecting each one as he placed it in his basket. "Master!" cried the student, "I have returned with the seed as you commanded! Please show me the great magick now, show me what you have created so that I can believe!" The master said nothing, as he simply picked a tomato and placed it beside the seed the student had carried. |
