I remember reading, not too long ago, a very self-congratulatory report from the televison industry saying how much they'd reduced images of sex during prime-time. What struck me as odd was the lack of mention of images of violence during prime-time; the lack of mention seemed to give approval to the violence, that it wasn't worth bothering about. This should not have surprised me. We impeached a President for lying about consensual sex - but the apparent consequence of lying (yes, lying, and not some whitewashed euphamism) about WMD - and hence, lying about why we went to war - is collective national amnesia. Violence should always be, as Asimov put it, "the last refuge of the incompetent." I'm very much afraid that we've fulfilled that requirement to a "T".
